MDEQ awards solid waste assistance grants

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Alcorn County and Pontotoc County are being awarded a solid waste assistance grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

The money will be spent on cleaning up each county's illegal dump sites.

Pontotoc County was awarded $17,018.  Alcorn County is receiving $31,214 with part of the funding going toward a local solid waste enforcement officer.

The solid waste assistance grants are utilized by cities and counties to help manage the prevention and cleanup of unauthorized dumps.
