(WTVA) -- Students in Lee, Pontotoc and Union counties are clicking away with some new technology.

It consists of a complete classroom instruction system, a mobile interactive whiteboard, a touch screen interactive whiteboard, clickers and examination software to help prepare students for state testing.

The pilot initiative will be tested in 24 classrooms within the three counties for one semester. Leaders said if it helps, it could be added in all districts throughout Mississippi.

"We are going to take what we find here in the classrooms of these three counties to have it analyzed by the University of Mississippi. Of course, our goal is to look for private donations, such as Toyota and other manufacturers around, and put this technology in every classroom," said U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, (R) Mississippi.

The Appalachian Regional Commission, the technology company eInstruction, and the Three Rivers Planning and Development District provided the programs at no cost to the schools.
