PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death of a man who shot himself while authorities were waiting to arrest him on a probation violation.
A spokesperson with the Mississippi Department of Public Safety says officers with the Mississippi Department of Corrections had gone to a home on King's Highway in Pontotoc County around 10 a.m. Monday.
He says the MDOC officers were there to arrest Jerry Golding, 51.
The spokesperson says Golding died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound while the officers were inside the home.
The shooting remains under investigation.
