PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Pontotoc County man is free on bond after authorities arrested him for sending a suspicious letter containing powder to a business Wednesday.

Pontotoc Police Chief Larry Poole says Billy Carl Hill, 70, of Corey Lane in Houlka is charged with the unlawful performing of an act intended to cause a person to falsely believe they were exposed to a harmful biological, chemical or radiological substance.

The letter was sent to Pool Specialist on West Oxford Street.

The owner of the business was taken to an area hospital for testing while hazardous materials teams worked to clean the business.

Testing later showed the substance was a non-poisonous household chemical.

Poole says authorities made the arrest after serving a search warrant at Hill's home on Friday.

The chief says investigators recovered a stack of printed letters Hill intended to send out.

Poole says Hill has sent hundreds of letters to people in Pontotoc and Chickasaw County for the past several months.

Hill is currently free on a $150,000.
