PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- A driver hauling hay on Friday had to pull over because some of what he was carrying had caught on fire.

It happened after 4 p.m. on Highway 9 between the Sherman and Endville Road exits.

Upon realizing what happened, authorities say the driver of the pickup truck pulled over, dropping several bales in the process.

Firefighters spent much of the evening trying to extinguish the flames.

Because of this, the southbound lanes of Highway 9 have been temporarily shut down.

Authorities are redirecting southbound traffic onto Old Highway 9, according to Sherman Police Chief Joey Spellins.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Firefighters have not yet determined what caused the bales to catch fire.
