STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Six hundred turkeys are now in the hands of Starkville and Oktibbeha County residents.

An event held in Starkville Wednesday morning attracted hundreds.

The turkeys were handed out in a mere 25 minutes.

NBA basketball player and Starkville native Travis Outlaw provided the turkeys in hopes of making this holiday season a merry one for others.

Outlaw is well known for his generosity in Starkville.

His father John Outlaw, Senior says he was surprised at the huge response from the public.

John Outlaw, Senior says his son will be happy to know how many people he was able to help.

"He wants the people of Starkville to know that he appreciates them and their support when he was in high school here and also since he's in the NBA," John Outlaw, Senior said.

John Outlaw, Senior says they may double the number of turkeys next year for the event or choose something that will help even more people.
