STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — TVA officials say the city of Starkville is one of 13 cities across the South to participate in the company's Valley Sustainable Communities Program.

The Valley Sustainable Communities Program functions to increase the likelihood of companies building or expanding business in local areas.

Officials say they will work with communities’ sustainability teams to help inventory, develop and implement sustainable initiatives and increase awareness of sustainable assets throughout the program.

Communities will then receive one of three designations within the program: Platinum, Gold or Silver.

TVA began the program in 2013 and recognized Oxford/Lafayette County as a Gold community in its first year.
