STURGIS, Miss. (WTVA) -- They've called the whole thing off.
The Sturgis South Bike Rally is not going to happen in 2013.
Rally Board President Donnie Hanson says the decision follows a work session that was held Tuesday.
Hanson says they had hoped all members of the Board of Alderman would show up for the work session to iron out expenses and other issues.
He says three board members did not come.
Two of those board members previously voted against holding the rally in 2011 and 2012.
They are Vice Mayor Wayne McCool and Mandy Page.
McCool says, "I think it's premature to pull out of negotiations when I by no means am opposed to holding the rally,"
Alderman Mike Collins says, "I wish that the town of Sturgis Board and the Rally Board could have reached an agreement. I know a lot of people really want and will miss the rally." end quote.
Mayor Walt Turner says, "I'm very disappointed. I don't blame the Rally Board. I know the frustration they've gone through. Hopefully they will find a way to reconsider."
The Board of Aldermen and members of the Rally Board have tried during negotiations to determine how to cover the expenses of sanitation, security and portable bathrooms.
It all boils down to what both sides consider to be the fair share of expenses.
Concerns have been expressed over what is in the best interests of the town and whether or not the event could end up costing more money than it's taking in.
Hanson and others believe the economic impact speaks for itself.
