JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Mississippi Senate has approved the bill that would lead to a consolidation of the Starkville and Oktibbeha County school districts.
Under the proposal, a commission would be formed to recommend to state leaders how to implement the consolidation, which would happen by July 1, 2015.
However, House Bill 716 was amended by senators Tuesday to allow the commission to recommend that the newly created school district include territory in adjoining counties.
More must happen in the Legislature before the bill can be sent to Governor Phil Bryant for his consideration.
