STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- The mayor and board of aldermen in the city of Starkville could be getting a raise in pay.

The Audit and Budget Committee recommendation would be considered during the board meeting Wednesday night.

The committee voted on December 19 to recommend the city raise the alderman pay from $12,000 to $15,000 annually.

The mayor's pay would jump from $60,000 to $71,500 under the proposal.

If approved, the raises would not go into effect until October 1, 2013.

The board will also hear the results of a salary survey for the city conducted by the Stennnis Institute for Government at Mississippi State.

Aldermen will hold their regular meeting Wednesday night at 5:30 because of the New Year's Holiday.
