JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied a request to stay the execution of Willie Jerome Manning.

The order was issued Thursday morning by the state's highest court.

Manning, 44, is scheduled to die by lethal injection May 7 for the killings of Jon Steckler and Tiffany Miller in Oktibbeha County in 1992.

Earlier this week, The Mississippi Innocence Project and Innocence Project New Orleans filed the request for the stay in a friend of the court brief.

The groups pointed to a motion filed last week for the the Mississippi Supreme Court to rehear a request for DNA and forensic testing of Manning.
