MABEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- Tuesday was a big day for Maben Mayor Larry Pruitt and the Board of Aldermen, and they want to share it with everyone.

"Just glad to have the facility for our community. Not only the community but the surrounding communities," Mayor Pruitt said.

A new building emerges on the same site where an aging, mold-filled building used to stand.

Construction began one year ago on the 2,000 square foot building.

Maben City Hall includes a courtroom and offices for the mayor, city clerks and police chief.

"We have labored for years to get something suitable for our people here in the town to be comfortable in. Now, we see something that the people of this generation help put together," Alderman Harvey Jones said.

Grant money, combined with a local contribution, made the facility possible.

"Oh! I love it. We are so proud of the grants that we got and Mr. Lloyd Cummings who gave us $50,000, you know," Alderman Pat Harpole said.

"The other one was getting kind of obsolete and was really old. This is really wonderful," former Mayor Jim Johnson said.

"We want to start here and let's try to build our city-our town to what it could be and should be," Mayor Pruitt added.

Plans also include improvements to other structures in Maben.
