WASHINGTON (WTVA) -- A Mississippi State University team placed in a competition to reinvent and develop an innovative and green water infrastructure during a U.S. Environmental Agency event.

The EPA competition, the Campus RainWorks Challenge, was implemented as a design challenge for students to reduce stormwater pollution and build resilience to climate change in water infrastructure systems.

The MSU team was awarded second place in the competition's Site Design Category for a three-phase design plan to add a 1,000 gallon above-ground cistern, an aqueduct, and bioretention to the west side of the university's Union.

EPA says the next annual Campus RainWorks Challenge will be scheduled for the fall of 2014.
