STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Volunteers from Mississippi State University took time out of their weekend to give back to a local school.

Members from MSU's Collegiate 4-H organization helped clean the playground at the Emerson Family Preschool Saturday morning.

Collegiate 4-H is a community-based organization that serves people and non-profits in the Starkville community.

They were contacted through the Maroon Volunteer Board, which finds people and organizations from campus to help serve Starkville and Columbus.

"It's a huge benefit to non-profits and people limited on staff who needs an extra set of hand," said Emerson Preschool Director Tiffany Finnell. "It helps us and students because you have those college kids who are looking to beef up their resumes."

"Any opportunity that I get to help with my own community, I try to get my organization to do it too," said Collegiate 4-H President Portia Randle. "We mainly do community service work."

Finnell said, due to their limited staff, they hope to find volunteers once a month to help clean the site.
