STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — The Starkville Police Department is now back to full staff after the Board of Aldermen approved the hiring of four officers.
Two of the four are minorities. Department leaders said that helps make the force more reflective of the community.
The new officers will be sworn in next week and will begin field training with an officer.
"We're a large growing community, and 55 is just getting to where we want to be," said Sergeant Laura Hines Roberson. "We're always wanting more officers, but we're proud to be at 55."
Three of the four officers will soon depart for the Police Academy at Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg for 11 weeks of additional training.
