Investigation underway into fatal fire

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - An elderly woman has died after fire broke out in a Starkville home Thursday afternoon.

Coroner Michael Hunt tells WTVA.com Mary Elizabeth Foster, 86, appears to have died from smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. at 303 Everglade Avenue.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to one room in the home.

They did rescue one person from the home, but Foster's body was found in the room where the fire broke out.

Hunt says an her body has been sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
