STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — The Mississippi Modern Homestead Center is working to get folks to go back to the basics.

The center held its Homestead Farm and Market Show Saturday.

The show is meant to get people to do more of their day-to-day activities themselves.

The event featured locals farmers and businesses from the north Mississippi area.

They were there to show people how to make their own soaps, beverages and other goods.

An instructor at the center says everyone should have more control over what they consume.

"It's just people getting back to our roots, what our grandparents used to do," Mississippi Modern Homestead Center Line Dance Instructor Kimberly Fobian said. "Grow it ourselves, depend on ourselves and also depend on others."
