JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two groups are attempting to get a stay of execution for Willie Jerome Manning.

Manning, 44, is scheduled to die by lethal injection May 7th for the killings of Jon Steckler and Tiffany Miller in Oktibbeha County in 1992.

The Mississippi Innocence Project and Innocence Project New Orleans filed the request for the stay in a friend of the court brief on Tuesday.

In their filing, the two groups point to a motion filed last week for the the Mississippi Supreme Court to rehear a request for DNA and forensic testing of Manning.

They ask for the stay to allow "ample time" for the court to reconsider the issues.

The brief also says his attorney is expected to file a motion for Clemency with Governor Phil Bryant on Tuesday.
