STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Employees who work at one city hall in north Mississippi are counting the time until they move into a brand new building.

Both the city hall staff and court staff in Starkville will relocate once construction is completed and the new city hall passes inspection.
However, the Starkville police department will remain at its current location in a refurbished building.

Construction has started at the site of the old electric department on West Main Street which was demolished in the fall of 2013.

"That demolition project is now complete. And, some of the early site work has started on the construction project, and they'll be getting ready to build the foundation shortly," said Parker Wiseman, mayor of Starkville.

Plans call for the new city hall to be open sometime during the summer of 2015.
