STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) — People getting ready for a men's basketball game at Mississippi State University got a surprise a little more than an hour before tipoff Wednesday.

The power went out at Humphrey Coliseum.

A sports information official wrote on Twitter a substation that provides electricity to campus malfunctioned.

It's unclear just how much of the university campus fell into darkness before 7 p.m.

Reports on social media indicated the outage lasted for approximately 30 minutes.

At least MSU basketball coach Rick Ray was able to find some humor in the situation prior to his team facing Alabama.

"I hope none of our players get injured in the dark!" he tweeted.
