BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WTVA) -- A federal bankruptcy judge has approved an agreement between Belle Foods and its largest creditor that requires the company to sell 44 stores not already targeted for closure or sale.
The agreement made public Wednesday includes an agreement by C&S Wholesale Grocers to continuing supplying the supermarket through at least October 4.
Belle Foods filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month and announced the closure of 12 stores.
They previously had targeted 13 stores, including Southern Family Market in Columbus for sale.
The latest agreement to sell its remaining stores includes the Piggly Wiggly in Starkville.
The court says Belle Foods owners Bill and Jeff White will have the right to bid to buy the stores.
The company employed over 2,800 people when it filed for bankruptcy.
