WASHINGTON (WTVA) — The government shutdown has forced the cancellation of an event at the Sam D. Hamilton Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday.
Officials with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service Tuesday announced the cancellation of the National Wildlife Refuge Week festival.
The festival was expected to draw more than 500 citizens.
Sponsors included the Mississippi Department Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Friends of Noxubee and Mississippi State University.
The event is one of several canceled because the shutdown didn't leave the federal agency the ability to meet logistical requirements to host them.
It marks the second weekend events were canceled because of the shutdown.
