MACON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Monday, Macon Police arrested a former state inmate within hours of his release from the local Community Work Center and charged him with grand larceny in connection with equipment stolen from the city’s Street Department facility.

According to our media partner, The Macon Beacon, acting on a tip, Macon Police surrounded the vehicle carrying Cedric Davidson and soon found several items that had been taken minutes earlier from the city barn.

Macon Police say the investigation is ongoing and won’t say at this point how Davidson gained access to the building.

Davidson, 46, was released from the Mississippi Department of Corrections’ Noxubee Community Work Center Monday.

He had been serving a two-year sentence out of Clay County for a false pretense conviction.

He had reportedly worked with the Macon Street Department crew.

He is being held in the Noxubee County Jail.
