PURVIS, Miss. (WTVA) -- Lamar County prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against two North Mississippi men charged with capital murder.

WDAM TV reports James Martin, 22, and David Bass, 27, are accused of killing Ada Smith, 95, near Purvis after escaping from a Mississippi Department of Corrections work facility in Hattiesburg.

The two men are accused of stabbing the woman to death in her home, then taking her car.

The car was later found in Slidell, Louisiana.

Martin, who was serving time for grand larceny in Monroe County, and Bass, who was serving time for burglary out of Lee County, were later captured on Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

Both men will return to court on March 19th.
