SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) -- Did you know one of the most well-known characters on the Grand Ole Opry hails from Smithville, Mississippi?
His name is Rod Brasfield.
If this comedians name does not ring a bell, all you have to do to find out more is go to the annual Rod Brasfield festival in Smithville.
Many did just that Friday and today.
This is the first time the festival has been held in sixteen years.
Organizers say it symbolizes the determination to bounce back from a tornado struck a devastating blow to Smithville 2011.
"You know it's a special place and Rod Brasfield is from Smithville, so getting this back together with the old tax ID number and everything was just very exciting for all of us," Coordinator Jimmy Dabbs said.
"It's very special after the tornado came through and it wiped everything out. We're getting back on our feet and it's good to see a lot of people out here together," Amory resident Bethany Canyon said.
The dunking booth was one of the most popular attractions as dozens get a chance to put Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell in the water.
