SMITHVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - After 30 years in the same location Family Access Health Services will soon be moving.
Thanks to land being donated, the clinic will move across Highway 25 in Smithville.
With the move this will afford the clinic to offer more treatment opportunities for patients.

For Smithville resident Charles Cummings he is one of many who is counting the days to when Smithville's only medical clinic will offer expanded services.

"Very anxious for the new clinic," adds Cummings, patient. "They will have more room and better facilities and everything."

Clinic officials are also ready to move a new address -- on the site where Smithville Baptist Church once stood.

There have been delays, in part due to requirements imposed by a federal grant.

"While we wanted to get started on the construction we felt like it was worth waiting to be able to build the type of facility that we wanted," adds Marilyn Sumerford, executive director of Access Family Health Services. "[By] having the grant funds we're be able to do it without any debt."

A key advantage to having Access Family Health Services Smithville Clinic move to a new location while they are in the process of relocating they'll still be able to treat patients at their temporary site."

"It should be a seamless transition from the temporary facility to the new facility," said Sumerford.

The new facility will take up more than 12,000 square feet and offer additional medical services for patients.

"We're adding X-Ray services and we'll be providing some type of pharmacy services in the facility," adds Sumerford. "We will have some staffing increase, but we will be adding another physician to our staff."

With another physician plus more staff being added, more people likely won't have to travel as far to seek treatment.

"Hip replacement and back surgery all this last year," added Cummings. "It's very convenient for the elderly people here in Smithville."

Plans call for the clinic to open at its new location sometime in the early part of 2014.
