ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- You don't have to drive to New Orleans to celebrate Fat Tuesday.
Aberdeen is hosting its very own Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday complete with beads and other Cajun favorites.
Many activities are planned as Aberdeen continues to celebrate the city's 175th birthday.
Organizers feel this is a unique way to promote the city as well as remind one and all how Fat Tuesday is held prior to Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent.
"It's been important for us to have different events at different times and different venues just to try to bring the community together," Aberdeen Visitors Bureau Director Tina Robbins said.
Activities include a free movie for the children.
Traditional New Orleans coffee and beignets and other sweet treats will also be available.
The festivities will kick off at 4 p.m. in downtown.
