ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) — Growing up you may remember the morning announcements over the public address system at your school.

At Aberdeen Elementary they've turned it up a notch.

It's not your typical morning announcements at school.

First grade assistant teacher Angela Sherman leads the  AES Morning Show with a lot of enthusiasm for the day ahead.

Sherman said, "I know some come in and they're sleepy like  I am!  I said let's do something to get them motivated.  I thought about the AES Morning Show."

The daily 8:00 a.m. start to the school day features Sherman and several students who are selected to join the host each week.

From the school lunch menu to reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, these few minutes on the school public address system are a chance to get the student body ready to start their day all on the same page.

Sherman said, "I just want to motivate them and let them know they're special.  I want them to do what they have to do to get to the next level."

Sherman and another teacher came up with the idea a few years ago.

In case you wondered she doesn't have any broadcast experience.

Sherman said, "I'm a singer so you can count that as experience. I don't know.  I love to talk so I guess that's experience in itself."

Whatever it takes, Sherman says, to get her school's students excited about being here to learn.
