ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- How about a trailer to go along with that van?
The Monroe County Sheriff's Department could win a trailer to haul trash picked up by state inmates.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation is so impressed with trash removal efforts in the county, they have recognized them for a second year in a row.
Only three law enforcement agencies in the state are selected by MDOT.
"Well, it would be impossible to do this if we did not have the inmate labor and it keeps them busy. It keeps them out of trouble while they're in jail. It helps build their character," Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said.
State inmates pick up trash on state highways five days a week.
