TUSKEGEE, Ala. (WTVA) -- Funeral services for Lt. Herbert E. Carter were held Thursday at the school where he trained to become a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II.

Carter, 93, was one of the original 33 Tuskegee Airmen trained at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama.

The USAAC later became the U. S. Air Force and Carter retired from active duty after 25 years.

He later worked as an educator and in administration at Tuskegee Institute.

Funeral services were held in the chapel at Tuskegee University Thursday afternoon.

Carter grew up in Amory, Mississippi.
