JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — A broken water line led the town of Smithville on Tuesday to issue a boil water alert.

The Mississippi State Department of Health says the alert affects approximately 450 customers who live in town as well as those along Highway 25 South, Hatley-Smithville Road and Pecan Orchard Road.

People who get tap water from the town are advised to boil water for one minute before drinking it.

There's no word on when the alert will be lifted.
