ABERDEEN, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied a defense request to grant bail for David Parvin.

The state's highest court had ordered a new trial for Parvin, 74, earlier this year.

Parvin was convicted of murder in the 2007 shooting death of Joyce Parvin, 68, at their Monroe County home.

He contends the shooting was accidental.

Parvin was indicted by a grand jury and later convicted and sentenced to life in prison in 2011.

The new trial was slated to start earlier this month, but was delayed after prosecutors asked for more time to review new filings by Parvin's attornies.

A new trial date has not been set.

Parvin remains in the Monroe County jail.
