MONROE CO., Miss. (WTVA) -- A man who fell into a pond Friday morning while cutting grass in Monroe County has died.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, just before 10:00 a.m., Thomas E. Rossi, 73, was cutting grass on a riding mower behind his home on Hester Cutoff Road near the Bigbee community.
The person who called 911 told authorities Rossi ran into a pond.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says Rossi was underwater for about 15 minutes before being pulled out of the pond.
Medics attempted to revive him and he was airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by staff at 11:46 a.m.
Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says he is ruling cause of death as drowning and manner of death as accidental.
Gurley says Rossi's age and other medical conditions could have possibly been a factor in the incident.
