MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- An Aberdeen man has died after a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on Highway 25.

Monroe County Coroner Alan Gurley says Christopher C. Payne, 30, was driving on Highway 25 toward Aberdeen when he ran off the road and hit a tree near the Muldon community.

Gurley said it happened at 7:38 p.m.

The coroner said medics pronounced Payne dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Gurley said the cause of death is multiple trauma from the accident.

Payne was on his way home from work at Severstal, Gurley added.

The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
