TISHOMINGO COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- New information shows that the two fishermen who died in a boating accident early Saturday morning on the Tenn-Tom Waterway died from separate causes.

It first appeared both died from drowning, but Tishomingo County Coroner Mack Wilemon says that's no longer the case.

Wilemon said the driver, Jeremy Floyd, 40, hit a moored barge going about 50 miles per hour. He was knocked unconscious and drowned.

The passenger, Carey Downs, 39, died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Both victims were from Counce, Tenn.

The accident happened sometime after midnight Saturday on the Tenn-Tom Water just north of Goat Island.

Wilemon said investigators found Floyd's body in the water around 7 a.m., but they didn't locate Downs' body until 11 a.m.

Wilemon will send the toxicology report on the driver to the lab on Tuesday.
