SAN FRANCISCO, CA (AP) - The inventor of the computer mouse has died.

Doug Engelbart also developed early versions of email, word processing programs and the Internet.

The Computer History Museum, where he'd been a fellow since 2005, says he died early today at the age of 88.

The museum, in Mountain View, Calif., learned of his death from Engelbart's daughter -- in an e-mail.
