TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The Tennessee Valley Authority is ready move forward on a new transmission line that will feed energy to the Tupelo area.
According to a news release sent to WTVA.com on Friday, the agency proposes to build a third connection between the Union and Tupelo substations to help prevent overloading of the two existing lines during periods of heavy power demand.
TVA officials say a National Environmental Policy Act review is pending.
The agency says the preferred route is the northern option, running from the Union Substation, north of County Road 251, east of Saltillo and connecting to Turner Industrial Park.
The agency says it will meet with property owners along the propsed right of way to obtain easements for construction, operation and maintenance of the line.
The news release says that construction is scheduled to begin during the summer of 2015 and be completed in about a year.
