JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- Mississippi Post Office officials are preparing for the approaching 2014 tax filing deadline and a possible influx of traffic.

To accommodate customers on April 15, post offices in Columbus, Starkville and Tupelo will be open later than 5 p.m.

The Columbus post office, located at 3202 Bluecutt Road, will be open until 5:30 p.m.

The Starkville post office will also close at 5:30 p.m. It is located at 822 Taylor Street in Starkville.

The Tupelo post office, located at 362 South Thomas Street, will close at 6 p.m.

The U.S. Postal Service advises those filing on April 15 to send mail early in the day with the appropriate stamp postage and double-check the pick-up schedule on collection boxes if sending mail that way.

Officials say the IRS accepts the First-Class postmark as proof of filing by April 15.
