JACKSON, Miss. -- The Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman remains on lockdown following a homicide and an altercation between inmates this week.
According to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, on Tuesday, inmate Kelvin Bowen was fatally stabbed in the hallway of a maximum security unit.
Then on Wednesday, officials said a disturbance in the gym left eleven inmates and five staff members injured. Two of those inmates remain hospitalized.
MDOC announced that visitation at Parchman is canceled until further notice.
Authorities said no charges have been filed from either the homicide or altercation. They confirmed both cases involved gang members, but officials are investigating whether or not the two incidents are connected.
