SHANNON, Miss. (WTVA) — One person died in a one-vehicle accident late Wednesday afternoon along Highway 45 Alternate.
It happened sometime around 5 p.m. at the Shannon-Nettleton exit.
Shannon police say five people, including three children, were inside a sport utility vehicle when it swerved off the northbound side of the highway and flipped before crashing into an embankment.
Police Chief Desiree Kershner says a man was ejected from the vehicle but the woman who was driving somehow ended up under the SUV.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green says 24-year-old Serbrina McIntosh of Okolona died at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo before 6 p.m.
Kershner says it appears McIntosh was changing lanes when she did not see another vehicle next to her.
At some point, the vehicle went off the highway.
