TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - One of north Mississippi's largest employers found out Wednesday that it is number one when it comes to maintaining high standards and quality service.
North Mississippi Health Services, the parent company of the North Mississippi Medical Center, has become the recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
On Wednesday afternoon, medical center staff and community leaders gathered to hear the impressive news.
Hospital employees say they have been working on the application process consistently for about three years.
North Mississippi Health Services President and CEO John Heer says it was a 50-page application and that everything had to be just right.
The award is also given to other types of industry.
There were reportedly more than two dozen other health care facilities around the country that also applied for the award, and this year NMHS was the only one that won in that category.
The criteria for the award is based on seven categories.
