TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Highway Patrol will begin the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday enforcement period Wednesday, November 21 at 6:00pm, and will end Sunday, November 25, at midnight.
Additional manpower will be provided with extra troopers in place throughout the holiday period.
“We want to ensure that all motorist and families traveling our roadways in Mississippi this holiday season make it safely to their destinations,” Public Safety Commissioner Albert Santa Cruz said.
Due to the fact Thanksgiving holidays are usually a deadly time of year concerning traffic fatalities, motorist are being urged to make responsible decisions when it comes to driving.
“We’re anticipating a heavy volume of traffic with holiday travel this year and Troopers will be out in force,” MHP Director Colonel Donnell Berry said. “But, to have a successful holiday period without loss of life, we’re asking motorist to do their part as well.”
The enforcement detail will include checkpoints and troopers patrolling the roadways with focus on impaired, speeding and distracted drivers, along with any violation that would put the motoring public at risk.
