ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Transportation has picked up a regional award for work on the Highway 9 project in Pontotoc County.

The American Automobile Association, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the U. S. Chamber of Commerce were given a regional award in the Ahead of Schedule category.

MDOT was awarded with the win in the medium category for its State Route 9 — Mississippi’s Road to Toyota project.

The category covers projects costing between $25 million and $200 million.

The expansion of a 10 mile stretch of Highway 9 was overseen by Eutaw Construction and came in ahead of schedule and under budget.

The America's Transportation Awards program is in its sixth year.

10 projects from across the country will be selected to compete for the Grand Prize and People's Choice Award.

Those awards will be presented in October.
