JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Former Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is asking a Hinds County judge to lower the bond he must file to appeal an order that he repay $73,000 to the city for the alleged misuse of public funds spent on personal trips, expensive dinners and clothing.

If that is denied, The Commercial Appeal reports attorneys for Davis are asking that he be allowed to use his public official bond from Travelers Insurance to cover his appeal bond.

The appeal bond is required when a defendant wants to delay payment of a judgment until his appeal is heard.

According to Mississippi rules of appellate procedure, the appeal bond may be 125 percent of the judgment, so Davis' appeal bond could be $92,394 but the judge could lower the bond amount.
