WASHINGTON (WTVA) -- The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services continues its efforts to help mothers give birth to healthy children and to continue the help until the child reaches five years of age.
The agency is providing nearly $107 million nationwide to the Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program.
The program helps young families to promote the children's healthy growth and development.
HHS officials say home visit programs also help prevent child abuse and neglect.
Mississippi will receive $1.5 million and Alabama over $1.9 million in the latest announcement.
