JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Marshall County man has lost an attempt to have his manslaughter conviction overturned.

Denorris Howell, 31, of Waterford is serving 17 years in the shooting death of LaKeith Jones.

Jones was shot to death at Howell's home in October of 2010.

In his appeal, Howell claims he acted in self defense, the evidence presented during trial didn't support the verdict and sentence he received and he was denied the right to present photos of his family as evidence.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld Howell's conviction and sentence.
