BRANDON, Miss. (AP) — Two adults and three children have been rescued after their boat capsized near the dam at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District Police Department says it responded to a distress call about 10 p.m. Friday, taking the five people aboard a reservoir police boat.

The boaters were taken to land where they were evaluated by the reservoir police department and paramedics. No one was taken to a hospital.

Reservoir Police Chief Perry Waggener says police believe high winds and waves contributed to the capsizing.

He says reservoir police and conservation officers from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks will maintain a significant presence at the lake through the remainder of the holiday weekend.
