COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) --  Tupelo Police Chief Tony Carleton will soon be taking another position with the Columbus Police Department.

Wednesday afternoon, the Columbus City Council approved his hiring during a special meeting.

Carleton, an 18-year law enforcement veteran, served as Tupelo's police chief for the past four years.

He announced his resignation Monday saying his last day with the city would be October 31.

Carleton will start November 1 as assistant police chief of investigations and narcotics.

WTVA's Drew Powell will have more on today's meeting on WTVA News at Five.
