(WTVA) — Voters in Tupelo elected a new mayor Tuesday while voters in Columbus and Starkville re-elected their mayors.
Unofficial results show Democrat Jason Shelton defeated Republican Fred Pitts 59 percent to 41 percent for mayor of Tupelo.
In Columbus, incumbent Democrat Robert Smith fended off a challenge by Republican Glenn Lautzenhiser and independent Bo Jarrett. Smith has 69 percent of the vote while Lautzenhiser had 26 percent. Jarrett had 5 percent.
The Starkville mayor's race had incumbent Democrat Parker Wiseman winning over Republican Dan Moreland 56 percent to 44 percent.
