WASHINGTON (WTVA) -– U.S. Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker are giving their support to a possible sale of six Lakota helicopters to Thailand.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress of the Thai government's request to purchase the military aircraft built at the American Eurocopter facility in Lowndes County for $77 million.
The contract would also include associated training and equipment.
Sen. Wicker says the sale comes at an important time as the nation's defense strategy pivots toward Asia.
Sen. Cochran says the sale will benefit an important ally and enhance the reputation of Mississippi's manufacturing capabililties internationally.
The Senators say Every delivery of the Lakota to the United States Army has been ahead of schedule and under budget.
The proposed sale is under review and could be a precursor to the sale of additional aircraft to Thailand in the future.
